Agios Theodoros Soleas is
a beautiful little village which is built on
the foothill Troodos. It is 50 km away from Nicosia.
The lack of transportation means has lead to
the abandonment of the village. The young people
moved in the big cities of the island seeking
for a job. The few people who remained in the
village are very old. A group of people, originated
from Agios Theodoros Soleas, decided to organize
an Association in order to conserve the memory
of their village. Thus, they organized the Expatriates
Association. The protagonists of this idea were
Andreas Alexandrou, Neoklis Filaktou, Dinos Theofilaktou
and Andreas Kostantinidis. The institutive meeting
was on May 1987. The registration was made in
the Ministry of the Interior and the name of
the Association was Expatriates Association of
Agios Theodoros Soleas. The president is Andreas
Alexandrou.
The members of the Expatriates Association organize
several parties, meetings and balls so that the
children of the expatriates meet each other and
get to know the history of their village.
On the same time, they are trying to help the
old inhabitants of the village to have a better
life.
The Expatriates Association has contributed
economically for the construction of the road
that leads to the church. For many years, the
inhabitants had to walk in a small path to reach
the church which is built outside the village.
It has also helped for the paving of the church’s
yard. The next goal of the Association is the
creation of a community park which will become
a center of attraction for many expatriates.
During the last years, many expatriates have
returned to their homeland and they have built
small houses for their holidays. |
